The Journey So Far: From a “Quiet” Beginning to a Collective PowerHouse
It all started back in 2025 with a single track called “A Quiet Moment“. Despite the name, it wasn’t quiet at all, it was a heavy, relentless fusion of Hard Techno, Schranz, and Acid that served as the first true heartbeat of BLACK WAXX. That release set our foundation: “No Rules. Just Sound”. We wanted to build a sanctuary for pure sound, drawing from Marcus’s thirty years in the underground, from those early German warehouse raves to the forest parties here in the UK.
As the label evolved into a collective, things started moving quickly. We launched NOCOLOUR with our friend Will Hernandez, blending Marcus’s clinical production with Will’s Cuban roots and soulful Latin rhythms. It was a massive thrill when our debut NUMBERS EP started getting love from the BBC, with “Number Four” getting national airplay before we even officially put it out. Since then, tracks like “Number One,” “I AM Here,” and “All You Do” have kept that momentum going on the airwaves.
While the Afro House side was growing, Marcus was also busy in the studio as mindwax, focusing on that deep, technical precision we love. It was a proud, grounded moment when “Diminished“ was featured on Beatport’s “Best New Hard Techno“ list for August 2025. It wasn’t about the hype, just a solid fact that our studio experiments were resonating with the wider scene.
The collective continues to expand with the inclusion of Dirty Inc., a dynamic duo featuring Jon Merritt and Jay Hales. Their journey began in Nottingham during a sound engineering course, sparking a creative partnership that specializes in electrifying commercial house and hard dance. They’ve already made a mark on the label with the release of “In The Dark“ and “Game Over“ on BLACK WAXX. Known for standout remixes for labels like Pioneer Records and Freedom Recordings, they are now bringing that undeniable momentum to the BLACK WAXX roster.
This same drive is fuelled into MENTALI6X, our high-octane energetic Drum & Bass project formed by Marcus and Jon Merritt. These two bring over fifty years of collective experience to the table, Marcus with that atmospheric rave energy and Jon with surgical technical precision. Their track “New Beginnings” was championed by BBC Music Introducing for two weeks straight, and their new 2026 single “True To You“ captures that exact energy of two friends just having a blast in the studio.
Now, the circle is widening. We are so happy to have our friend Rob Steven joining the BLACK WAXX family. Rob has been a staple in the scene for years, starting his journey at 16 and evolving from the high-energy sounds of Trance and Hardhouse to the deeper, more intelligent grooves of Techno. He’s shared stages at venues like the O2 with names like Christian Varela, Nick Muir, and Gary Beck, and his 15 years of production experience makes him a perfect fit as we shift toward being a live-performing collective. For Rob, the studio is therapy, a safe place to express feelings without hesitation, and we are honoured to have his house-driven techno vibe in our lab.
None of this would look the same without the visual storytellers. All the artwork is created by BLAC WAXX, and much of the photography you’ve seen so far has been through the lens of Deoval Trivedi. As we grow, we look forward to bringing more photographers into the fold to capture the journey. We’re just a group of friends who are dedicated, focused, and honestly just love the craft. Thanks for being part of the noise.
